Is there any scenarios for BI anywhere - we want to play a mini comp at the club but it would be good to do something other than straight battles as we want to play 3-4 games in a night.

TIA

Ok ... I found the scenarios but they are more actual how to refight battles - I was looking for scenarios with objectives and victory points allocated to tasks type thing.

Ideas I have are things like:
taking over the hill
controlling the river crossing at end of turn x
holding the position until reinforcements arrived
having to break through to something

etc etc

Any ideas welcomed Smile

aah, ok this makes more sense for comp games. But with full lists? I mean for example you can make a rearguard action but in inferior number.
For example you can also refight Themopilae in this way:
2 Units of highly motivated Spartans with VBU=7 Twisted Evil that form a "block", then 3 Units of other Hoplites with VBU=4.

Of course they defend a pass large as 3-4 Units.

The Persians (full army) have to break the enemy line and pass with one Unit in say 5 or 6 turns.

 Historical scenarios

I am interested in fighting historical scenarios with the BI rules.

1. Are there any guidelines concerning numbers represented bu different sorts of units and ground scale. I think it is impossiible to be precise on this and a good game is more important but any ideas in designing scenarios would be welcome.

2. I understand that there have been some scenarios in the Italian Dadi&Piombo wargames magazine - what scenerios were these and what editions were they in? I might try and get back copies if I can!

Thanks,

Simon

groud scale in BI is very "abstract" as one army shoud represent one army, so I would concentrate more on proportions.

Scenarios published in D&P so far are

issue 34 - Indo 305 BC (Seleucid vs Maurya Indian) - Impetus

issue 33 - Steppes 1213 (Brabantiones vs Lieges) - BI

issue 31 - Cerami 1063 (Normans vs Sicilian Arabs). The issue include a A3 Map and the Units to cut and play

issue 28 - Leuttra 371 BC (Thebans vs Spartans). Basic Impetus

issue 27 - Crecy 1346, Azincourt 1415, Patay 1429 and Formigny 1450 (within a special on the 100YW) - Basic Impetus

issue 26 - Monthlery 1465 (Drench vs Burgindians) - Basic Impetus

issue 25 - Varna 1444 (Ottoman Turks vs Crusaders) - Basic Impetus

issue 24 - Soncino 1412 (Soncinese vs Cremonese - Italian city states) (this is for the beta version and while the text is also in English the Order of battle is only in Italian as Impetus, in English, was not released yet. In case I can provide an updated Order of Battle)

issue 22 - Arbedo 1422 (Milanese vs Swiss) Impetus (this is for the beta version and while the text is also in English the Order of battle is only in Italian as Impetus, in English, was not released yet. In case I can provide an updated Order of Battle)

for back issue there is an offer called Poker Offer. You can buy with paypal 4 back issues (at choice, with the exception of last 2 issues out) at 20 euros postage included worldwide. More info here http://www.dadiepiombo.com/pay.html (see bottom page)

Thanks for the list of scenarios. I agree that getting the proportions right is more important. Did you have any proportions in mind when you developed the rules. Eg if a heavy infantry unit represents 1000 men, then a heavy cavalry unit is 500, a light cavalry 250 etc??

Thanks,

Simon

Impetus has the following ratio (it is just to give an idea. Also consider that usually Medieval armies were smaller than Ancients)

Heavy Infantry 600 to 1200 men
Light Infantry / Medium and heavy Cavalry 400 to 800 men
Skirmish and Ligh Cavalry 200 to 300 men

For BI you can probably double the higher numbers for the Ancients and double the lower for the Medieval.
