 Supporting after fighting as main

Hi
We are confused with the following as it came up in a game tonight and we know how it plays in Basic but not a full game.

A unit had been fighting as a main unit against an enemy when a different unit charged into the enemy. Does the original unit count as fighting again (either as a main or support) although it had fought as a main that go?
The passage in the multiple melee text seems to contradict itself.

Cheers

Hi Rich, here the text:

7.7.4 Multiple melee in more than one phase
[...]
The Unit that “restarts” the melee automatically activates friendly Units belonging to the same Command that are involved in the melee and that have not yet been activated that turn. Units from the Command that were activated beforehand as well as Units from other Commands may fight in the melee that ensues.

The sense is that the Unit re-fight everytime is involved, but it may be activated by this new melee. Activated means that you cannot voluntary activate it later in the same turn.

Suppose the melee between 2 Units (A, the one you control and B, the enemy) ends in a draw, with both Units in contact.

Now it is a new turn. Well you could add another Unit, C, into the melee to help A. But if you move C before performing the melee between A and B, A will fight once (with the help of C) and then is considered activated, so you cannot make another melee with A after.

If you make the melee between A and B (and the stay in contact) and then move C, A will fight a second time.

Hope it is clear, multiplee melee is the more complicated part of the game.

But what happens when C contacts B immediately after A and B have ended in a draw (suppose I activate C just immediately after A)? Is A the main Unit again or C?

beeing the Main Unit has no relation with the timing you contact but with the amount of enemy Unit's front you engage.

It my happen tha A and B are in melee with very few front and when C enters engages more of A front than B. In this case C is the main Unit.

See the example

And what would happen if A was covering 3 cm of B's front when C is charging? In this situation A has already been activated and C is NOT covering the most part of B's front. Will A be the "new" main Unit again?
