I have made some bases where the rear rank has as many detachable men as the unit's VBU so casualties are taken off and the number left is an indicator of the current strength. For units with few figures dead bodies made of cut and painted figures can mark lost VBU. Any other ideas which give alternatives to card or plastic markers ?. Also for disorder, a couple of figures are detachable and can be made to face the wrong way on the base when it is disordered. Units on standby can have an officer standing in front with a stick or sword raised lik ehe is waiting to signal movement. Give the 'marker' figures a good coat of varnish because they will be touched more often.

I've been thinking about a casualty figure on a square base with a number subtly painted on each side
The base could be turned around so the number of casualties is against the rear of the bases or whatever.
Maybe you could use 5 or 6 sided shapes.
I'd try and make these casualty miniatures fairly generice.g. barbarian that would suit Gauls, Britons, Germans etc, fig in tunic etc- I wouldn't want a fully plate armoured knight lying at the back of my Roman legions wondering how the hell he got there.
I suppose you could make them specific but I want to do a few different armies and there aren't always casualty figs available.
I suppose the base could just have a big clump of grass, a rock or a discarded shield.

This lot do some pretty useful figs.
For disorder I'm thinking of a head on a bases- they've lost their heads for a minute ha ha ha. I need to find some one who does separate heads as it would be a bit expensive cutting them off miniatures.

I have to agree with the 'more pics' comment - always looking for new ideas Very Happy

I'm leaning towards using a round base with a shield and a number for casualties, and another round base with crossed swords for disruption.

Litko also have different useful tokens. They make a special set for FoG but not yet for Impetus Rolling Eyes
Should many gamers ask for an "Impetus set"... Wink

West Wind make figures with separate heads. I'm not sure how extensive their range is though, the only ones I've seen are 28mm Dark Ages and Samurai. Quite nice figures though, I've added a few to my WAB Welsh army.
