Hi!

I am interested in collecting a 15mm scale force of Late Feudal English under the command of Edward I or at least one of his commanders and freely admit to not having a vast amount of knowledge on the subject!

Can anyone suggest suitable figures for infantry (Cavalry and longbows are well covered by essex but what weapons should I depict the heavy infantry as carrying as at the moment am assuming they carry spears, shields and a reasonable amount of armour!)

It would be handy for those of us not from a historical wargaming background to have a short description of each of the units (dress, equipment etc) I know its incredibly lazy but any help would be appreciated!

My next purchase may well be one of the osprey guides to the era!

the Osprey will be helpfull to visualize.
Anyway early 14th Men At Arms were similar througout Europe.
One of the great advantege of the Middle Ages is that, with the exception of specific troop types (the Englihs longbowmen, the Scottich peikemen etc) troops like: Knights, Men at Arms (say lesser Knights), Crossbowmen and spearmen were the same for all "nations".

So if you have Essex you can complete the army with their range. Any spearmen for the late XIII/early XIIV Cent will fit.

I would say that you have a good choices (spear+kite shield are ok, but don't be afraid to mix)

You could check the offerings of LMK Direct - http://quickreactionforce.co.uk/catalog/index.php/cPath/21_49

I've ordered their Pictish spearmen, medieval horseholders, and welsh spearman. I found their models to be simple and very pleasing. As to whether any of the models would be appropriate to the period you mean, I really don'y know. I'm no expert.
