 Close Combat Question!

Hi!

Had a good game last night between feudal English and French but came up with a couple of questions regarding melee.

First if a unit rather than a single base charges an opposing stand but are at an angle do they need to wheel or do they charge straight ahead (as it turned out 3 stands of FP charged a stand of french knights who didnt quite make the charge range themselves)

Also does the supporting unit/s get a disorder marker due to close combat?

As it turned out the French won after breaking a stand of English Cavalry and mauling the english foot while the English managed to break one unit of French cavalry and a stand of skirmishers and caused casualties amongst the other cavalry units but failed to break them!

A good game all round but I need to work on ridding myself of the French skirmishers who blocked any attempt of my longbows to fire at any decent units!

not sure to have understood correctly. When you charge you don't have to align, or better you must not align. So just go stright ahead.
Also one Unit can fight against up to 2 enemy units (see 7.6.4).

When you charge with a group that is not parallel to the target, Units of the group can finish all their movement, so some of the Units of the group can move more than others. The melee occour when all the movements are finished (the advantage to move by group).

Supporting Units don't suffer any results from melee. Anyway they reatrat if their friend Unit (the Main Unit) has to retreat because lost the melee.
As they retreat with a different roll, it may happen that the enemy reach the Unit that was first a supporting Unit and now becomes a Main Unit.

S are very precious to screen. You have to hope to place an hit on them with your longbows. If S have to make a cohesion test they have good possibilities to be destroyed.
