Where will a general likely be placed?

I've reached the point now where I'm basing units. As it stands, I have a very limited number of command figures in 10mm, so I don't want to glue models to bases only to find I've used the wrong models in the wrong circumstances. As I'm still waiting for my rulebook to arrive, could someone answer a few basic questions.

1. Is the general (CIC) likely to be based with a unit or on a separate base or counter?
2. Are other commands likely to be based with units, on separate bases, or a mix of both?

Thanks for the help in advance.

in mpetus you can choose to attach your Commander to a Unit (same as BI) or have them separately. In the latter case the generals are only a visula affair as they "operate" from the table edge (measures are taken from your edge).

Usually it is much better to have generals with the army, of course they risk.

Also in Impetus the generals cn be attached to more Units than BI, to reflect the fatct that these commanders can operate for example with Heavy Infantry or other options.

Which armies are you basing?

I'm currently basing carthaginians and the polybian romans will be next.

In my 10mm collection, I have a very limited number of seperate command models, so I want to use the most prominent looking model as the general. So, I'm wondering should I base him with the carth. cavalry or save him to be base separately.

In any event, I'm waiting for the book from Olde Rivertowne. Hopefully it will arrive soon.

the list in the rulebook gives you the possibility to place Generals or with Carthaginian cavalry or with the heavy infantry.

For Hannibal I would sugget to place with the cavalry.

Anyway for my 15mm Carthaginian army I have opted for basing it separatley, placing on a round base Hannibal and a standard bearer.
This is a more flexible choice as you can place close to the choosen Unit in case you want an attached general or let him free on the battlefield (it is just for visual purpose) if I want him not attached.

For the Roman I placed the General with the cavalry, but this also beacuse I was short on cavalrymen (6 figures per base).
