A question about republican romans, and the shift to full Impetus. Are the FP units in the basic list supposed to be composed of all three types (Principes, Hastati, Triarii), or is the idea that each base should be made of a separate infantry type?
In Basic Impetus an infantry stand should be a "Legion" (with no distinction among Hastati/Principes/Triarii, one Unit=one legion), in Impetus each legion is made up of
1 Unit of Velites
1 Unit of Hastati
1 Unit of Principes
1 Unit of Triarii
For my BI army I have used 4 Units made with Principes figures. They are Old Glory 15mm so I had a big bag of them, but one can use also Hastati (to be honest I think that the difference in appearence between hasati and principes is mostly a wargaming difference).
So when I moved from BI to 300pts Impetus I just added 2 Unist of triarii. In the future I will paint 4 Units of Hastati and 2 more of Triarii to get 4 legions that is what you need in a 500pts army.
So my suggestion is not to use Triarii figures in BI and base them apart for Impetus.
