I can't wait. Hopefully I'll be finished with my first two units of Louis XIV French infantry this weekend.
Just one question... how compatible with Basic Baroque be with Impetus? Will gamers be able to just import the troop types to Impetus in order to play larger games?
Basic Impetus and Impetus will be compatible, same troop types etc.
So you can start from a "Basic" Army and then develop to a full Impetus army just adding Units.
The only problem of compatibility is between (Basic) Impetus and (Basic) Baroque due to different size of bases.
The problem could be for armies that can be used for both periods, for example an Ottoman Turk (well most of the cavalry is different because you have to provide them with pistols but one could recycle light cavalry with bow). The solution (apart from adopting a slotta base) is that one have to add an additional base to put aside the Unit.
For example your Unit has a 8cm frontage, then you add a smaller base of 4cm frontage with 1 or 2 figures (for example a standard bearer and a musician) and you can use this to indicate if the unit is in Diosrder, I mean if the standard bearer shows his back the Unit is in disorder. In this way you don't have to paint many more figures.
Another problem is the late 16 Cent. period (The Wars of Religion). I think it is much better to use the Basic Baroque expansion for this period. Opinions?
I guess my real question is, if I want to play large battles for late 17th century, would it be better to increase the number of units similar to the Multi Basic Impetus suggestion, or could I simply use the Impetus game mechanics modified for late 17th century army lists?
The different base sizes don't really bother me as I probably won't be using the same type armies between the different rules.
at this stage use the multiple armies. Some of the rules in Impetus will work fine also for the '600, so of course you can use them if you like to improve the game. In the future a "full Baroque" will be released. Probably as a Volume of Impetus with lists (and a point system) and more complete special rules. But at this stage more play testing is required.
