If the Unit belongs to the active Command, when you fight in melee (even if as a supporting Unit), you are activated by that melee. So your activation starts and end with the melee (note that you can make more phases of melee, with follow-up/retreats).
If the Units (not yet activated) belongs to a non active command, it can be activated lately that turn (even if the Unit already had a melee that turn) when its command wins the initiative. But this is enough obvious so I think you were referring to the 1st case.
Always consider the melee for a Unit as the last part of its activation.
So for example you cannot shoot after a melee (for example your enemy recoils and you haven't shoot yet and now you could as no more in contact).
