 Shooting Question

Hi!

I have downloaded the basic rules as I am interested in starting to play historical wargames after playing nothing but sci-fi and fantasy for the last 18 years!

I have a bit of a question regarding firing! If a unit with a VBU of 2 fires at skirmishers which gives a -2 dice modifier (essentially giving you zero dice to roll) are these attacks lost, take no effect or do they result in the skirmishers being disordered?

Thanks!

they are lost.
You will soon realise that in most cases S vs S give no results.
S should be considered in a defensive role as screening trops. If you don't protrect with your S maybe an anemy S can disorder or even cause losses to your shock troops.

Hi!

Thanks for that!

I'm so used to skirmishers being used as normal infantry and often hurling themselves into close combat!

at start it will seem a little frustrating, but so they perform like did. They are very important and very flexible on movements.

Hi!

Another question!

Do units get disordered from wheeling? If so does this also apply to skirmishers?

Also if you wheel while disordered do you receive another disorder marker...

And yet another question! If you move and fire in the same turn you receive a disorder marker, what happens when you fire then move? Does the disorder marker still apply by effecting the number of dice you roll to fire?

I am sure the answer is in the rules but havent found it just yet!

Thanks

Richard

the simple wheel doesn't cause disorder. You got disordered of you "wheel and move". This is for all troops (S and CL included).
Note that you can charge with a "wheel and move".
Aslo you cannot "wheel and move" if already disordered

Also if you wheel while disordered do you receive another disorder marker...

No. In any case Disorder is always one. You cannot be disordered twice.
From a moving purpose disorderd Uniots cannot make some actions (like the "wheel and move" or the oblique/side movement ...)

And yet another question! If you move and fire in the same turn you receive a disorder marker, what happens when you fire then move? Does the disorder marker still apply by effecting the number of dice you roll to fire?

You are not disordered if you move and fire or fire and move. But yiou get a penalty (-2) on shooting. Note that if you want to shoot before and move after you have to pay this penalty. If you "pay" for this than you can decide to move or not. If you forgot to pay the penalty, then you CANNOT move after shooting.

Can a unit shoot and then charge to contact if it pays the -2 for shooting and then moving?

Thanks,

Simon

yes it can. You can also change your mind and after shooting deciding not to move (maybe you expetected to weak your opponent and then charge, but the shooting was not effective as hoped).
